IPWS –

Integrated Pipe Welding System

PrestonEastin - Separator

Smart, Repeatable Welding.

Built to Last.

The IPWS from Preston Eastin and Steelmax is a complete, turnkey solution for pipe and vessel welding. Every component — positioner, manipulator, oscillator, and welding system — is engineered to work together and delivered as a single integrated unit. One call. One quote. One system on your shop floor.

What Is the IPWS?

Pipe and vessel welding requires precise positioning, consistent arc travel, and repeatable bead profiles — pass after pass, joint after joint. The Integrated Pipe Welding System delivers all three. Designed for fabricators who need to eliminate weld defects, reduce operator fatigue, and increase throughput, the IPWS combines best-in-class components from Preston Eastin and Steelmax into a single, pre-engineered welding cell. Standard IPWS configurations include the Miller PipeWorx 400 Welding System — providing best-in-class GMAW and FCAW pipe welding performance. The Steelmax programmable linear oscillation system enables root, hot, fill, and capping passes to be performed automatically with solid, flux, or metal core wire. Preston Eastin manipulators accurately position your torch for repeatable, defect-free welds.

Everything You Need. Nothing You Don’t.

The IPWS is built around four core components, each selected for its performance in demanding pipe and vessel welding environments.

Preston Eastin X-Y Manipulator

Precisely positions your welding torch along both horizontal and vertical axes. Motorized remote control eliminates manual repositioning between passes. Available in 4-foot and 6-foot arm configurations to match your workpiece size.

Preston Eastin Positioners

Tilts and rotates your workpiece to keep the weld joint in the flat (1G) or horizontal (2G) position. The 3,000-lb capacity PE-30 Tilt/Rotate Weld Positioner is paired with a 30-inch gripper chuck for secure workpiece engagement.

A second positioner option is the Preston Eastin HS-50-E headstock, which rotates and elevates your work piece from 20-80 inches and is also paired with a 30-inch gripper chuck.

Steelmax Linear Oscillator System

Programmable linear oscillation controls arc travel speed, weave width, and dwell time for each weld pass. Produces perfect bead profiles and full wall fusion — automatically. Compatible with all major welding power sources. Tactical probe seam tracking available as an add-on option.

Miller PipeWorx 400 with Dual Wire Feeders

Industry-standard welding power source for pipe applications. Supports GMAW and FCAW processes. Included in all standard IPWS configurations. Dual wire feeders enable fast process changeover without rewiring. Custom configurations available — contact us to spec a system around your application, workpiece dimensions, or existing equipment.

Why Fabricators Choose the IPWS

Improve Quality

Programmable oscillation controls weave width, travel speed, and dwell time with precision no manual welder can consistently match. More accurate positioning means fewer defects, better fusion, and welds that pass inspection the first time.

Greater Efficiency

Motorized remote control of all positioning tasks keeps operators focused on the weld, not on adjusting fixtures. Higher arc-on time per shift. Reduced fatigue. Consistent output from the first joint to the last.

Reduce Cost

Fewer weld defects mean less rework. Precise oscillation reduces over-welding and filler metal waste. A system that produces consistent results the first time costs less per weld than one that doesn’t.

Four Configurations. One System.

These four standard configurations cover the majority of pipe and vessel welding tasks. All include the Steelmax Linear Oscillator System, Miller PipeWorx 400 with dual wire feeders, and a Preston Eastin X-Y Manipulator. Choose based on footprint and workholding preference.
